Product Authenticity & Verification Manual
A Guide for Our Valued Customers Simply Perfumes UK – Your Trusted Partner in Genuine Fragrances
1. Our Commitment to Authenticity
At Simply Perfumes UK, we maintain a zero-tolerance policy regarding counterfeit products. Every item in our inventory is sourced from reputable distributors and undergoes a multi-point inspection before it reaches your door. This manual is designed to help you understand the markers of genuine luxury fragrances and how to verify your purchase.

2. Visual Inspection & Packaging Variants
When you receive your order, the first step is a visual check. Depending on your purchase, it will fall into one of three categories:
A. Sealed Fragrances
-
What to look for: High-quality cellophane wrapping with neat, heat-sealed folds (not messy glue).
-
Note: Some brands (e.g., certain niche or eco-friendly designers) may not use cellophane.

B. Sealed Gift Sets
-
What to look for: These are often larger boxes containing multiple items (e.g., EDT and Body Lotion). They are sealed by the manufacturer to ensure the contents remain undisturbed.

C. Open Gift Sets (Inspection Ready)
- Our Process: Certain gift sets are supplied by the manufacturer without a cellophane seal or outer sticker. For these specific items, we take the opportunity to perform a manual inspection of the contents.
-
What to look for: This allows our team to verify that every component (e.g., fragrance, lotion, or travel spray) is present, correctly seated in the internal molding, and in pristine condition before it is dispatched to you.

3. The Batch Code System
The batch code is an alphanumeric code printed or embossed on both the product bottle and the outer packaging. It is the most reliable way to verify the manufacturing date.
How to Verify:
-
Locate the Code: It is usually found on the bottom of the bottle and the bottom of the cardboard box.
-
Visibility: Please note that batch codes can sometimes be faint or etched lightly into the glass/packaging, making them difficult to see under certain lighting.
-
Gift Set Particularities: * Open Sets: You may notice that individual items within a gift set (e.g., a shower gel vs. a perfume) have different batch codes. This is normal, as components are often manufactured on different production lines. The master code for verification is found on the outer box.
-
Sealed Sets: For sealed sets, only the outer box code can be verified without breaking the manufacturer's seal.
-
External Verification Tools:
You can check these codes against independent, free databases to confirm the production date:
Important Note on Database Limitations:
Please be aware that these websites are independent databases and are not always updated in real-time when luxury brands release new production runs or change their coding formats.
If a batch code does not appear on these free sites:
-
It does not mean the product is not genuine; it simply means the database has not yet been updated with that specific batch.
-
In these instances, the definitive way to proceed is to contact the brand's customer service department directly. By providing them with the batch code and product name, they can provide official confirmation of the item's authenticity and manufacture date.
4. Digital Cross-Referencing
To provide an additional layer of verification, you can utilize the barcode (EAN/UPC) and any available QR codes found on the product packaging.
-
Barcode Verification: Every authentic fragrance features a unique barcode. You can search this number on independent retail databases or global price comparison websites like PriceRunner UK - Save by comparing prices from 6,400 British stores This allows you to confirm that the product’s specific details and sizing match the official manufacturer's listing.
-
QR Codes: Many modern brands incorporate QR codes for logistics, tracking, or digital brand storytelling.
-
Please Note: These codes are frequently used for the manufacturer’s internal supply chain systems. Occasionally, they may lead to inactive promotional pages or outdated links; this is a common occurrence in the industry and is not an indication of a counterfeit product.
-
5. Quality Assurance & Troubleshooting
Fragrances are "living" products, and slight variations can occur. We encourage you to contact us immediately if you notice any of the following:
-
Scent Profile: If the "top notes" seem different than remembered (note: reformulations by designers occur frequently).
-
Liquid Colour: Natural ingredients can cause slight colour variations between batches.
-
Damaged Packaging: If the box has been crushed or the seal broken during transit.
We are here to help. If something feels "off," do not hesitate to reach out. Our team will manually verify the batch with our suppliers to give you total peace of mind.
